McLean County Mahomet Aquifer Summit
When: Saturday, February 22, 2014, 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Where: Uptown Station, 4th Floor, 11 Uptown Circle, Normal, IL 61761
Plan now to attend the McLean County Mahomet Aquifer Summit in Normal! Guest speakers on aquifer topics including the Sole Source designation status, legal challenges and “next steps” – ways you can get involved – are scheduled. Hear from engineers, attorneys, your elected officials and concerned citizens about what is happening in DeWitt County at the Area Disposal landfill and what you can do about it. Clinton Landfill Inc., an affiliate of Area Disposal, is seeking US EPA permission to accept higher concentrations of toxic PCB’s (polychlorinated biphenyls) in this municipal waste landfill located directly over the Mahomet Aquifer. Learn more about how this could endanger the water source for about 800,000 people who live, work and play in Central Illinois. This aquifer is necessary for human consumption, commerce and farm irrigation in more than a dozen counties. We can’t afford to take it for granted one more day!
Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the Uptown Station. Lunch will be provided.
